rectangular; rough REMARKS:Rectangular cut stone, smooth top from Portland, OR. reputed to have been used as ship's ballast, cut in Australia by prisoners, left in Portland and used for paving. Used as a cobblestone. Sometimes called "Irish Confetti" because of practice of throwing these during riots. OBJECT DATE:19th century |
