4. song-books REMARKS:1 Song-book printed for Roseburg Chamber of Commerce, containing 5 songs on 2 leaves:; "Oregon Suits Me"; "Pretty Roseburg"; "Should Forum Luncheons be Forgot?"; "Me for Roseburg"; "Carry Me Back to Dear Old Roseburg"; In the middle of the 1920's, Roseburg promoters adopted the idea that the word "Umpqua" was a Native American word meaning, "I am Satisfied". Various "booster" publications about Roseburg incorporated that phrase into their slogans. Lane counters statements by General Wool that the war was instigated by whites. He states that the war was initiated entirely by native inhabitants of both Oregon and Washington territories.; This publication includes as a Note, a speech by Governor Isaac Stevens of Washington Territory to the Legislative Assembly of that Territory. Stevens' speech concerns the causes and prosecution of the Indian war in Washington Territory. - speech
