The Heritage Commission's mission was to coordinate separate agencies working with history and heritage-tourism subjects, to provide advocacy for appropriate legislation, and to be a vehicle for public education about the value of Oregon's heritage.; Included with this final report, issued in January 1997, is a copy of a draft report and accompanying memorandum issued by Daniel Robertson, Chair of the Oregon Heritage Commission, dated 29 October 1996. The memorandum announced the schedule of public hearings in November and December, for obtaining public comment on the Heritage Commission draft. The final report was issued after public commentary. - report

The author's report summarizes his research on the blockhouse of U.S. Army Fort Umpqua, near the site of Gardiner at the mouth of the Umpqua River. The author concludes that photographs of the blockhouse attributed to Fort Umpqua are instead photographs of the blockhouse at Fort Orford, Oregon Territory, taken before the blockhouse was dismantled and moved to Fort Umpqua.; The report consists of approximately 10 leaves of text, and an additional 12 leaves of photocopied illustrations of Fort Umpqua and significant individuals associated with it. - report
