REMARKS:Painting given to donor's father, Kenneth Mears, who was a pastor at the Methodist Church South in Roseburg from 1906-1912. It was painted by Mrs. William Cobb (Candace Dillard) who was known for making gifts of her paintings.; Information about the artist from her obituary: Mrs. Candace Amanda Cobb, born Feb. 11, 1871 at Dillard. She was the daughter of James McCord and Mary Ellen Dillard. She was married Jan. 24, 1898 at Dillard to William Lucian Cobb, who preceded her in death in 1932. Four children were born into the family, Thane Jennings Cobb, who died at age 2, Mrs. V.M. Cameron, W.L. Cobb Jr., and E.T. Cobb. Mrs. Cobb was a life-long member of the Methodist Church South, and active in Sunday School and Women's Society for many years. Outside her church work, her principal interest was in painting and her pictures may be found in the homes of her many friends and relatives. She is buried in the Civil Bend Cemetary in Winston. Died 1956.
