REMARKS: This is an interview with C. E. Reece and it takes place in his home at Melrose on March 13, 1979. The interviewer is Valerie Sonnenberg.
Mr. Reece was born in Oregon City in 1909. His parents moved from Missouri to the Oregon area to work in the woolen mills and the paper mills. He moved to the Melrose area and started school at Cleveland. He talks about the Melrose area and the Swedish settlemrnt there. He talks about gowing up in the Melrose area. In 1931 he bought the Dixonville Store which he operated until 1937. He talks a great deal about what he sold there and what the prices were and how he was efected by the war years ad the Depression. After 1937 he bought the Melrose Store which he still has an active interest in today.
