REMARKS:"The DEMO (Demonstration of Ecosystem Management Options) is an outgrowth of public, private, and scientific community desires. It is a study evaluating the biological, social, and economic effects of management strategies for Douglas-fir forest ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. In 1993, Congress allocated $1.5 million to the Natinal Forest System's Region 5 for working with the PNW Forest Ecosystem Research Partners and the Douglas Project Coalition in conductinog scientific experiments employing alternative harvests in Oregon and Washington. These experiments may provide new tools for keeeping forest ecosystems healthy and productive." [from the newsletter].
