REMARKS: This is an interview with George Trapalis and it takes place on May 11, 1978 in the home of Mr. Trapalis in Roseburg, and also present is his wife Eva. Interviewer is Star Eatherington.
In this interview Mr. Trapalis talaks about his life in Roseburg. He left Greece in 1914 and he talks about the problems he had with the immigration officials and how he got into the United States, a little bit about how he learned English. He was 14 at this time and he started a shoe shine servce and a hat cleaning service. He also started the Jitney businesss which is a taxi. He started the first taxi service in Roseburg. He also talks about the community programs and his involvement in them and he talks about the Ku Klux Klanand some trouble that they gave him because he would not join. He talks about the first State owned liquor store that opened up here in 1934.
