REMARKS: This is an interview with Clyde Carstens on June 19, 1978 in his home in Roseburg, Oregon. The interviewer is Star Eatherington.
In this interview Mr. Carstens talks about his life in Roseburg. He was born in 1900 and came to Roseburg in 1904. He got interested in musi at a very early age and played the clarinet for the Juvenile Band in Roseburg. He later helped organize the Roseburg Municipal Band and the ouglas County Orchestra. Mr. Carstens is also an early day photographer and talked a littyle bit about how he got interested in this and the equipment that he used. Lateron he became Postmaster of Roseburg when the Post Office was in the Federal Building. He talks about what the Post Office was like then. He also talks about the Blast in Roseburg in 1959 and the effects it had on the Post Office and the other businesses in the area. He talks quite a bit about the old time businesses, how the streets went, where the stores were and who the people were that lived here in the early days of Roseburg.
