REMARKS: This is an interview with Mr. & Mrs. Franklin Dunbar. It takes place on October 9, 1978 at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Dunbar on the campus of the Bible Academy in Canyonville, Oregon. The interviewer is Star Eatherington. Mrs. Dunbar came here in 1923 and talks about her experiences since she came to Oregon. She talks about the unique way in which her family settled in the Canyonville area was because her father's car broke down in Canyonville during the prune season when labor was needed. Mr. Dunbar was born and raised in the Drain area. His father had several sawmills all over Douglas County and he talks about the location of these sawills, his partners and his early memories of growing up in a sawmill environment. He spent a lot of time aound Boswell Springs in Drain and talks a lot about this. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dunbar were missionaries in Souh America for many, many years and they talk a little bit about their experiences there. Both of them talk very fondly of Canyonville and its origins and its early settlers. Mrs. Dunbar's father was Mayor of Canyonville for a while and also started the Methodist Church there.
