REMARKS:Photocopy of manuscript prepared by L.L. Williams for H.H. Bancroft, to assist Bancroft in preparing his historical publications. The manuscript is reproduced for reference use only, and cannot be reproduced by the Douglas County Museum or used in any publication without the written permission of the Bancroft Library for each unique usage.; In this manuscript, Williams describes an exploring expedition led by W.G. T'Vault to the mouth of the Rogue River in 1850-51. Williams was badly wounded in battles with Indians, and was brought back to the Scottsburg area by Cyrus Hedden. Williams includes descriptions of Native American social life and customs he observed - including canoe making, local architecture, and foods eaten.
