REMARKS:George B. Abdill was the first Curator (Director) of the Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History. Appointed in 1968, he served until his death in 1982. He was also Editor of the Umpqua Trapper, quarterly publication of the Douglas County Historical Society, he was an organizer of the parent group that became the Oregon Museums Association, and he was interested in and active in many different community programs in the greater Roseburg, Oregon, area.; This collection of individual scrapbooks maintained by George Abdill includes newspaper articles about artifacts added to Museum collections, articles written by Abdill about local history, articles about Roseburg area individuals, and various programs, newsletters, and other ephemera concerning local events. Each scrapbook is numbered as a subgroup of this collection (e.g., MG332.1, MG332.2, etc.), and indexed according to subjects in that particular scrapbook. Scrapbooks are stored in flat boxes according to their Box Identification Number (see full cataloging record for information).
