REMARKS:The Sanborn Fire Insurance Company prepared maps of urban areas, showing outlines of structures with codes indicating fire-related information [type of building material, number of windows, subject of business, etc.]. Data from Sanborn maps were used by fire insurance agents to compute fire insurance premiums for home or business owners. Sanborn maps are important sources to determine the shape and composition of buildings, since no other relevant data were compiled so systematically.; This collection consists of 17 sheets of maps [p. 1 contains an index] of the Roseburg business district and surrounding residential areas in 1912. A series of Sanborn maps is available on microfilm.
