REMARKS:On Tuesday, 3 March 1998, Irene Zenev and Dennis Ruley were told that their employment was terminated effective that day. They were given 6.5 hours to exit the building. On Tuesday, 10 March 1998, the Board of Commissioners called a public meeting to hear citizen comments about the action. This meeting was attended by over 100 people, even though the meeting was called too late to be announced in the local newspaper. On Monday, 16 March 1998, the Commissioners voted to reinstate Dennis Ruley and Irene Zenev to their posts as Curators of Natural History and History, respectively, at the Douglas County Museum.; On Thursday, 19 March 1998, the Museum Advisory Committee voted, with one dissenting vote, to recommend the dismissal of Elizabeth Press as Museum Director. On 28 April 1998, the Board of Commissioners placed the Director on administrative leave.; This collection includes photocopies of newspaper articles written by John Sowell, News-Review reporter, about the terminations and meetings, together with audiocassette copies of the public meeting on 10 March and a photocopy of the visitor's register for that meeting. Numbers next to signatures on the register indicate the order of speakers on the audiocassette.
