REMARKS: This is an interview with Sid Comfort on September 13, 1978, at the office of Mr. Comfort at Douglas County Lumber Company near Winchester, Oregon. The interviewer is Star Eatherington.
In this interview Mr. Comfort talks about the growth of the Douglas County Lumber Company and how it got started and the different locations of its mill and some of the successes and problems of the company along the way. He talks about some of the changes of logging equipment through the years and the location of several mills in te early '40's when he first arrived. He also talks a little bit about the politics of logging, the future of logging industry and some of his ideas about wilderness areas an the use of 234, 5-T and some of the methods and problems and reforestation.
