REMARKS: This interview is with Ray Doerner aand it takess place in the Melrose area at his home on July 3, 1979. The interviewer is Valerie Sonnenberg.
Ray Doerner is one of the grandsons of Adam and Elizabeth Doerner, both of Germany. They came to Oregon in 1888 and ran a distillery in Roseburg and later on his land in the Cleveland area. Later his son Adolh, Ray's father, had a winery in Cleveland, Oregon in 1934 through 1964. Ray Doerner served four terms as Douglas County Commissioner and on this tape he discusses at length the O&C fund timber management and environmental programs and the history of the Douglas County Museum as well as family history.
