REMARKS:Edward B. Coats (1835-1922) came to Oregon from Missouri in the 1850s; he may have been a brother or other relation of Alden B. Coats, the Donation Land Claimant. E.B. Coats had a farm in Shoestring (Elkhead), OR. He married in 1868 Sarah Alice Clark (1851-1930), the daughter of George and Mary A. Clark of Cottage Grove, OR. The collection contains letters, legal documents, invoices and receipts, a family record, and other matter pertaining to Edward and Sarah Coats. Some of the material originates in Coos County, where Edward had purchased property in Coaledo. Legal documents of Sarah Coats pertain to title to a property in Lane County, and to a lease of her dower interest in Douglas County property to her daughter, Bertha Moore.
