REMARKS: The date is January 18, 1982. I am Ella Mae Young and I am interviewing Merle Hargis for the Oral History Program of the Douglas County Museum. I sam interviewing Mr. Hargis here in the library of the Museum. Mr. Hargis worked in the early '30s for the Umpqua National Forest as a mule-skinner and a packer. He first worked for the Steamboat District in the summer months and later for the Diamond Lake District.
