REMARKS:Six letters between George B. Abdill, Curator [Director] of the Douglas County Museum, and Oregon officials [including Governor Tom McCall] concerning the acquisition of a dead sea otter for the Museum's collection. The Oregon Department of Fish and Game administered a program introducing native Alaskan sea otters into Oregon waters, and Abdill wrote to request a dead specimen. Under terms of the permit for relocating the sea otters, however, the 2 that died within 30 days of shipment had to be returned to Alaska. One subsequently died, however, and that one was mounted in the Museum's natural history collection.
