REMARKS:Miscellaneous papers belonging to Mr. & Mrs. C.D. Maynard and Carl M. Seufert.; C.D. Maynard is listed in the 1909-1910 Roseburg City Directory as "Contractor and Builder". These papers are from his daughter, Gladys Maynard Seufert. One folder includes invoices for residential construction, including one document titled "Figures and Bid on 8 Room Cottage 2 Rooms upstairs on 23d St for J. Rawson / 527 Carolina St". No such street names are associated with Roseburg, so it is unclear where this bid was placed. The bid itemizes materials used [including crown molding, porch columns, etc.], and it is with invoices for Roseburg building-supply firms dated ca. 1904-1910.; Another document in the collection is a weekly time book, recording hours of labor performed on construction projects in 1943. The title page is incribed, "C.D. Maynard's Book". A blank deposit book for the Douglas County State Bank is undated, but was probably associated with Maynard's construction business.; Maynard's daughter, Gladys Maynard, married Karl Seufert, who probably worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. A number of maps and publications relate to that company [e.g., the October 1931 issue of the periodical, The Railroad Telegrapher, and blank telegrapher's order forms].; Two letters in 1914 are addressed to the "C.D. Maynard Stage Company", but no such firm could be found in the 1909-10 or 1921-22 Roseburg Directory.
