REMARKS:Files and papers generally concerning the Gardiner Lumber Company and its subsidiaries, ca. 1930-1960. These files were found in the vault of the International Paper [IP] Corporation mill offices at Gardiner, Oregon, when the mill was closed in April 1997. They are incomplete, but they illustrate the consolidation of the lumber industry in the Gardiner/Reedsport area between ca. 1938 and 1955. The larger, cubic-foot box contains files and minute-books relating to corporate acquisitions. A smaller box contains the plant and equipment ledger for the Gardiner Mill, showing costs established and depreciation charged against plant and equipment ca. 1942-45. Also in this box is a folder of proposals for screens and other equipment purchased by the mill ca. 1952.; The Gardiner Lumber Company was incorporated in October 1938. In 1950, it was identified in a letter as "a wholly-owned subsidiary of Long-Bell Lumber Company" [later IP]. Bridge Lumber Company was incorporated in Reedsport in June 1941, and was purchased by Gardiner Lumber in 1947. Camp Creek Timber Company was incorporated in Gardiner, Oregon, in 1938. It was purchased by Gardiner Lumber in 1945. Gardiner Boom Company was incorporated in 1917 in Gardiner, Oregon, and was purchased by Gardiner Lumber ca. 1950.; This collection also includes folders referring to contracts for a housing project in Reedsport, Oregon, ca. 1952-60, between Gardiner Lumber and Oregon Homes, Inc., to provide housing for Gardiner Lumber emplouyees. Also included are folders for two timber sales ca. 1950, and annual reports of the Gardiner Water Works.
