REMARKS:Papers of the family of Charles Applegate (1806-1879), Oregon pioneer and Douglas County Donation Land Claimant. Included are: notes of Charles Applegate concerning the 1843 journey to Oregon; letters of Elisha Applegate (1832-1896) to his uncle, Charles Applegate; letters, poems, and schoolwork of Harriet Applegate (1845-1862); reminiscences of Irene Applegate (1839-1919); histories of Yoncalla, OR and the Modoc Wars by George "Buck" Applegate (1852-1932); and the lengthy manuscript of Susannah Applegate's (1889-198?) unpublished book, "Jesse Applegate, Prince of Pioneers." Among other items of interest is an 1883 letter from Oregon historian Frances Fuller Victor to Judge Matthew P. Deady.
