REMARKS: This is an interview with Al Flegel on March 27, 1978. The interviewer is Rosemary Spires. The interview takes place at his home on Lane Street in Roseburg, Oregon. Mr. Flegel was born in 1906 in Portland, Oregon and came to Roseburg in 1940. Around 1946 he became Mayor of Roseburg, and later went on to become a State Senator, then he was County Commissioner. In this interview, Mr. Flegel talks about politics in Roseburg and Douglas County. He talks about the discrimination when he came to Roseburg and about the organization called the Round Table. A little about the prostitution in Roseburg and about his career in politics. He talksa a little about a small-time logging company.
