REMARKS:Papers concerning a race staged in 1955 between pony express riders and the Southern Pacific Railroad, to see which could deliver letters faster. The Rogue River Special, nicknamed the "Night Crawler", was a passenger train operated South of Eugene, Oregon.; A relay team of riders competed with the train, to see which one could arrive first in Roseburg. The train won by 7 minutes.; This collection contains newspaper clippings from various Oregon and other United States newspapers describing the race, together with a folder of letters to and from Alan Knudtson, race organizer.
