REMARKS: This is an interview with Nora Hatfield Helias and it takes place on June 14, 1978 in the home of Nora Helias, outside of Dixonville, Oregon. Interviewer is Star Eatherington.
In this tape Nora speaks very enthusiastically about her life which she very obviously enjoyed very much and she speaks of her childhood ad growing up on Hatfield farm on Buckhorn Road. Not far from where she lives now. She talks about her playthings, her school, her parents, her brthers and sisters, her pony, and her donkey. Then she talks about the life in logging camps where she did the cookinga nd how she progressed from dishwasher to waitress to cook, how she met her husband and how they then homesteaded up in the Crater Lake area. At the time, this was a very secluded area. They had to blaze a trail to get to their homesite. They lived there for eight years. Soon after her husband died, she went back to cooking again in a logging camp and a few years later married Mr. Helias. They then moved to this farm where she lives now and they built a log cabin that the lived in.
