REMARKS: This is an interview with Gordon Gerretsen of Gerretsem Building Supply on February 1, 1979, at his office in Roseburg. The interviewer is Dave Raynolds.
He was born in September 1924 in the City of Roseburg and his father is William Gerretsen and his mother is Frances Mary. Holloway was her maiden name. They moved her in 1922. He talks about his school and the things that they had done in his childhood and the coming of the radio which was quite an event in his family. He talks about the location of his father's first building supply business and the blast that occurred in 1959 and the efect that it had on the community ahd the business itself. Talks about his time in the Army, the entertainment in the C.C.C. campsa dn the American Legion baseball that they played. The V. A. Hospital was a big event in 1931, getting the hospital here. He mentions his adventures in the Boy Scouts back in the '30's and the '40's.
