REMARKS:Photocopy of an essay recounting an interview with Mrs. Ruth Buchanan in Corvallis, Oregon, in 1939. This interview was part of the Federal Writers' Project "Pioneer" interview series. Interviewers asked residents whose parents had come to Oregon ca. 1850-1875 about their childhood experiences.; Mrs. Buchanan grew up in Lane County and in Douglas County, Oregon, graduating from the Wilbur Academy. She described to the interviewer her reminiscences of life on the farm and in school. She details the procedures used by her father, Isaac Gardner, to make a beaver hat.
